Barry G. Trahan's father, Ray, established Trahan Real
Estate Services in 1962. Barry started working at the family firm in 1973. In
1975, upon his father's death, Barry became the sole owner. Barry served on the
board of Assessors in the City of New Bedford. In 1986, as the boards
Chairman, the first full evaluation of the cities 35,000 parcels was
successfully completed.
Having a strong working knowledge of real
estate values, Barry has become a leading expert in his field. Appraisers
include Kevin and Timothy, his two sons, his wife Debra as well as a full
complement of appraisers, all FHA approved, and a friendly staff of
administrative assistants for updates and fast service. Trahan Real Estate

cover Rockingham County and Hillsborough County. In Connecticut we cover
Hartford County, Middlesex County, New Haven County, New London County, Tolland
County and Windham County. In Florida our coverage area includes Orange County
and Oceola County.
Job Description for an Appraiser
One of the most rewarding aspects about being a Real Property
Appraiser is the diversity it provides. When it comes to wearing different
hats, appraisers adorn plenty. The typical day for an appraiser is often far
from typical. Many appraisers literally do it all, from accepting an assignment
to ensuring its delivery.
- Consult with the client to develop a proper
scope of work.
- Call contact to schedule an appointment to
view the subject.
- Drive to the property.
- Walk though every room and look in every
closet and bathtub.
- Properly identify any deficiencies or
enhancements, including estimating the quality of construction.
- Document findings with measurements and
photographs.
- Identify & confirm accuracy and
reliability of recent comparable sales and listings.
- Drive by comparable sales and listings and
take photographs.
- Identify & confirm accuracy and

- Research market and neighborhood for trends
with active listings, pending sales and current rental rates.
- Interview owners, agents, builders and
governmental officials.
- Check zoning, flood maps, taxes and, if
available, aerial photography.
- Provide a sketch of the subject reflecting
its gross living area.
- Aggregate all findings and results into a
report to present to the client.
- Complete and transmit the report.
